So my radiator has sprung a leak again. Not to upset the one i replaced was a $60 open box from summit and made it almost 2 years. Now i have a single row with a taurus efan. I have bee running that setup for two years with no problems never overheats. That being said id like to switch to an all aluminum radiator as I've put a bunch of those plastic tank replacements in peoples cars at work and they just seem to crap out just after the warranty expires. So i have two options there are no two core all aluminum radiators that i could find and i would prefer one as ive had horrible luck with the plastic tank ones. Now running about 10 degrees cooler would help my fans life span as it runs quite a bit in georgia summers. The only all aluminum ones i can find are single row or triple row but if i go triple row how big a temp difference should i expect? and will my efan still clear the accessories with the three row? the three row claims a 2inch core depth and my 1 row is like 1 inch maybe a little less and i have about three inches clearance between the fan and pulleys. Just curious if anyone has experience with this?

No one has any ideas if it will fit i just don't want to order it and get it here and it be to thick. Any help is appreciated.

 

I think you answered your own question.

Old Radiator is 1" thick with 3" of clearance between the fan and the engine
New radiator is 2" thick with same fan, so it should leave 2" of clearance from the engine.

Right?

 

yeah I'm just a little leary of exact sizes i cant imagine tripling the number of rows only doubles the size i guess i should have been more specific if anyone knew an exact thickness sorry to be confusing.

 

When my radiator was in the front of my ranger it would clear the engine by a 1/2" it cooled fine. I would certainly think this would be ok. Question though, if you are switching out the radiator because of the plastic caps and the plastic cap radiators last how long? why not just run it till it fails? Seems easy then.

Also the explorer radiator if I am not mistaken will bolt right up and is 2 row. Check it out for a 2000 or 2001 radiator

 

well this is the second one in the last 2 years or so both had one year warranties and both started leaking with in a month of the warranty being up so i really don't wanna mess with it anymore. They both leak at he bottom corner where the plastic meets so it has to be a design flaw. Also the supplier of the all aluminum is offering it on sale for $50 more than the plastic and has a lifetime warranty so if it fits it seems more than worth it to me.

 

The only all aluminum radiator I've ever seen for a Ranger was no name brand on eBay. If what you have now is working fine for you, I'd just keep it until it gives you problems. And yes, Explorer radiators bolt right up and are twice as thick.

 

Have you tried just buying a Ford Radiator? I have not had much luck with autoparts stores parts lately.

 

Yeah the first replacement I went ford and its made by vista pro or whatever there name is which i found out later its stamped on the bottom and thats who advanced and auto zone sell go figure. Strange though they must have switched suppliers my factory that lasted 8 years was made by someone else that they no longer carry.

 

Interesting. I think you would be best fitted with an explorer radiator. Keep the temps down and you probably wont have an issue with the plastic caps.

 

Thanks for the tip yeah i figured that might have something to do with it I do tow occasionally a lot recently since I moved last month and it flirted with 205to 210 degrees but that was with about 3000 pounds of trailer and furniture behind it so maybe the 2 row will be the best bet i want to try to keep it in the ford spec 190-199 range but ill give that a shot and see what it does.
