2.9l running wierd

PlEASE REAT ENTIRE THRED. I just came a cross a 1986 ford ranger with the 2.9l v6 and the tk5 5 speed, I'm haveing an issue where when truck first starts up cold. The truck runs perfect, but when it warms up it starts misfireing and wanting to die, if I try to open the throttle it cuts out and backfires through the intake, and if I let go it tryes to idle again but sounds like alot of random misfires. I'm stumped. New plugs wires I checked the timeing and its right where its supposed to be, just a recap. Cold start starts right up and idles perfect. After 15 to 20 min. It starts to run really shitty. And wants to die if any throttle is applied and pops through the intake. Any sensors I could test for free? I dont want to dump alot of money into this truck. And one more thing. It ran perfect at one time. One of my buddies messed with the distributor without removeing the spout connector when it was warm. Computer issue? Any help will be appreciated!

Why did your buddy mess with the distributor if it was running perfect?
