EGR and DPFE

I having a check engine light coming on in my 2000 ranger xlt. When I used the scanner at autozone It read that it was a problem with the EGR. So I replaced the EGR valve but the light was still on Ao i took it to my local mechanic to have it looked at and he said it was a problem with the DPFE. To be honest I have no idea what that is or how to fix it. Any advice or pics would be GREAT.

Thanks
Tony

Delta Pressure Feedback EGR Sensor (DPFE) looks like this^

I never had to replace mine, but i've heard you can clean it and see if that helps. Somebody that has actually had problems with theirs will chime in soon.

This is the easiest fix ever...if I can do it, so can you. Just two bolts- make sure there are no cracks in the hoses while ur replacing it.

I stole this from another thread.

while you're at it replace the 2 silicone based hoses. Go to ford and get the right ones. Vaccum lines will dry out and fall apart in a few days. This is coming from my personal experience. I think i paid 8 dollars a foot. Pricey yes, but they will last a long time. 16 bux well spent.

Its either one of the other when you get the egr code, I replaced my egr valve on my 3.0 light came on the next day for the same code replaced the dpfe and the light went off for good.

Its hit or miss when fixing the issue its best to just replace both at the same time they are each around $50 a piece.

the EGR valves don't really go bad very often in most cases I'd bet on the DPFE.

I had the same thing. I replaced the hoses and found a crack in one of them that you could not have seen with them still hooked up.

you might have saved a few buck, but when the autozone special goes out in 6 months replace it with the ford one that'll last 10 years :)
