3.0L Misfire
3.0L Misfire
I have recently started to experience misfires on my 3.0L V6 engine. The engine has about 266,000kms on it (165,284 miles), running in a 2008 Ranger Sport. The misfire are not bad enough to cause a check engine light or activate codes, but I can see them being activated on my scan tool, particularly on cylinder 6. I also can feel the engine misfire when I am stopped at red lights (this seems to be when they happen most). The misfire also does not happen that frequently, maybe once for every 30 minutes of driving. I changed the spark plugs and wires were changed about 45,000kms (27,961) miles ago. Am wondering if anyone might have a likely cause for this misfire?
So do you think its spark or fuel? I think I would first try and pull the #6 plug wire off at the coil and see if there's any change. I had this same type of think and when I did this there was no change so making me feel it was fuel. you can also change plug wires #6 and #2 at the coil, see if the miss goes to cylinder #2, if so it could be the coil. have you pulled the #6 plug? is it different from #4 or #5. this could tell something too. hope it helps
+1 ^^^^
Put a can of Seafoam, or similar Injector Cleaner, in the gas tank
I do this once a year and it cleans up my random misfires for another year, lol.
Injectors should SPRAY fuel in order to get a good even air/fuel mix
When injector tips get dirty they can DRIP fuel so uneven mix and misfires, not always full misfire but a partial misfire, so not full power from that cylinder, you notice this more at idle but can still happen under load

Thank you both. It seems like the issue is affecting more than one particular cylinder now (noticed a misfire on cylinder four today), so I will check spark plugs and run a fuel injector cleaner through the system, see what turns up.
