I don't think I could stand an extended cab 4wd with the 3.0.

I think a reg cab 2wd with normal size tires would be fine with the motor.

The major problem I see with the 3.0 is highway passing. If you need to pass someone you have to mash the gas and get it to kick down a couple gears.

From a stop, even with the 32's it gets up and goes fine.

Man I have a smaller gear ratio I think. I need to change up to 4.10s. I think that would make a world of difference...I think Im going to invest in an under-drive pulley too...that should make it at least have the little boost that I want.

when i got my truck.. i didnt know there were two different v6's... i test drove a new 3.0 first, and was fine. then drove my 4.0 (used).. and told the salesguy to have someone look at that 3.0 cause it drove like **** and i thought there was something wrong with it.. he laughed and told me that's just how the 3.0's are.

I didnt think 4x4's came with 3.55's.. you more than likely have 3.73s

lol yeah my truck can bog at times because of the 3.73 gears, but i dont want to be lugging at 3k rpms @ 70mph either, my truck already sits at 2700ish rpms.. but in ur case i'd get 4.10s for sure

I didnt realize there was a 4.0L engine in the Ranger till a week before I bought mine. I randomly looked at auto trader and noticed a guy said he had a 4.0L with 207hp... I was thinking it was pretty pimp that he dropped a 4L into it to replace the 3L.... Little did I know it came stock that way. After everything ive done to my truck the rear end constantly spins my 275-60-15s (rear tires)... its got lots of power and takes most trucks/cars by suprise. However my bosses 7.3L Excursion toasted it but his isnt stock either =)

If I own any car or truck, it has to have the biggest engine avaliable for that model, most powerful atleast.

I have a 2.5l and I think it has enough power......of course the mpg makes it all better and it has 3.73 gearing. lol I dont need alot of power anyways, I'd get into trouble if I did. lol

that's what i plan on doing to my truck , getting rid of my slow 3.0L and moving up to a crate 5.0L w/some customization to make it fit...or possibily just buying a supercharger for mine now, but im definitly buying gears first!

My first Ranger was a 93 3.0l regular cab 2wd 5spd. Went like hell... Rolled it a few years back, and while it was in the ditch burried up to it's axle in mud and the top squished down 4 inches, every body panel pushed in 3 inches, the cop asked if it would start. Fired right up without question or hesitation, and if it wasn't for 4 blown tires, it would have pulled itself out. It had 120k and ran as well as the day I bought it.

i may be wrong but in 04 the 3.0 got a new intake, injectors, PCM flash, did away with the EGR system(2003?) and improved exhaust system. i have driven older rangers with the 3.0 like 98ish and i can tell you there is a world of difference from one to another!

the vulcan is a wonderfull motor, its easy to repair and will run forever if you take care of it. i have seen these motors with over 350K on them. for is still producing it for a good reason!
