i dont think any car will shift into o/d at full throttle. overdrive is like a cruising gear for better gas mileage on the highway. my truck does the same thing, so did my car.
mine goes 95-97 top speed and i do it quite often. i dont think anything under 100 is that dangerous. i probably wouldn't do it all the time with stock tires though.

You are probably right. My truck did come with all season highway tires stock, which probably have a higher speed rating than the A/T tires a lot of Rangers come with.

Not true, the PCM kills fuel injector on time based on the speed recorded by the VSS - which is at the tail of the transmission or on the differential. There are actually 3 limiters. A speed limiter, a rev limiter and a nuetral rev limter. Not to be confused with the overtemp or cat event triggers that cause other issues.
A tuner is the only way around it.

You should NEVER go over the speed limit on public roads, and never go above the speeds based on your properly maintained tires and so on...

For the record, when you 'floor it', the tranny isn't shifting into overdrive, but rather downshifting itself to give better acceleration. Fifth gear on a manuel is similar to overdrive on an auto. In some cases an auto doesn't have O.D. (not sure about case-specific with a Ranger).

just my .02

mine shifts into overdrive at about 115 then it bogs and slows down and shifts back down to fourth. it will do that the whole time. the fastest i got my truck was to 120 and that was going down hill a bit.

I would think unplugging the speed sensor would block the speed limiter but not the rev limiter. Mine is unplugged but never tried to get to those speeds since it was removed. The only code you get is an oss speed sensor malfunction which I live with on a daily basis.

If you go 100 and don't know you're going 100, are you really going 100? lol

I've got to 117 mph in my truck, and it shakes as I'm going pass 80mph. But I was just in a real bad hurry so I wasn't trying to push it as far as it would go. I had all terrains on at the time and I think that and the fact I needed to balance my tires caused the shaking. 4x4's shake anyways at certain speeds. I did that only once.

wow. im surprised how many malfunctions and messed limits are out there.

I have 4.56 gears 31x10.50x15 tires and rims and i can get to about 120 and the limits kick in. do it daily on a specific stretch of road. never shake or tremble and it handles the bumps fine. but the small bumps feel like big bumps lol.
