Help me save GAS !!!!!
OH GOD DO I NEED HELP
I have a 99 ranger with the V6 and the way gas prices are it's killing me !
I'm a cable sub contractor so I have to pay for my own gas, and well we all knows gas is sky high so what are the alternative ways to save ?
I had a friend a while back with a 2001 Sport Trak and he changed the gears in the rear end and it dropped the RPM's a LOT ,I have lost contact with him so I'm not sure what he used , have any of you tried this ? or have any input ?

How often do you clean out your truck? Carrying a lot of junk will kill your mileage. Also how is your truck maintained? dirty oil & plugs are the biggest mileage killers. But if you are looking for better mileage I would get a 2.3 Ranger they are very capable trucks I have worked out of one before.

I gave you a serious answer back at the top. You want a free answer that will increase your MPGs then start walking your MPG will be outstanding and it won't cost you a cent.
If you want better mileage for your truck get an under drive pulley and a tuner like in my sig line.
I don't have anything close to a grand invested for MPGs.

I have started researching on a HHO(hydrogen system) and believe that it will work. Reallistically you will not get 40 MPG but you can get 20-35% increase in MPG.
I have started building a system.
You will need:
1. HHO booster (hydrogen/oxygen maker) hydolyzer. Smack's booster
2. safety circuit
3. O2 sensor circuit adjustor. (Depending on age od vehicle and CPU engine control).
These are all simple either build your own or purchase. (get places from site I post below)
This is an exciting idea which is not new. The first US patent was in 1913 I think.
CAUTION:
Hydrogen IS VERY EXPLOSIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do your homework.
With this caveat said, I think that it is a very doable and inexpensive way to increase MPG.
here is the Forum:

go to the FILE portion and find the "HOW TO'S" and they even have parts lists and where to purchase and schematics.
I am using :
1. Smack's booster
2. booster safety circuit (no power to booster if enginge not running)
3. Pat Kelly's O2 sensor circuit board modified by myself for dual O2 sensors)
Here is a senior class project done a MS state U. It used a Ranger as test vehicle.
http://www.ece.msstate.edu/courses/d...ments_prod.pdf
In this experiment they used vacuum in the safety circuit. Vacuum drops to 0 at full throttle and other times. I am using a oil pressure switch relay in the safety circuit instead.
I am still in the build stage for the booster and design /parts purchase for the electric phase.
I should be able to make this for ~$150 or less. If you Purchase it all ~$350 maybe.
I will post here as project moves forward.
Hope this helps.

I own a 97 ranger 2wd supercab 5 speed manual with a 2.3L. Completly stock with 14" wheels and I get on average 24-25 MPG with a/c off and 22-23 with it on.
I hope the newer 4 cyl. gets better gas mileage.
I have heard that the Tacoma standard cab 2wd with 4cyl 5 speed manual gets
close to 30 mpg.
If you go hydrogen make sure you put the sticker on it that states a 1 mile radius needs to be evacuated if it catches on fire.
