ABS light
 

Hey all.

I replaced the front leaf spring bracket on my g/f's 93 3.0, and when all was said and done, I started the engine and started to driver. The ABS light came on after a few seconds and she says the brake pedal is softer than it was before.

When I had the bed off, I noticed what looks like a brake line running up the left side of the frame and into a splitter on the rear axle. There was also another brake line that ran parallel to that one, however, it was completely rusted apart just after the fuel tank. It obviously hadn't been used in a long time.

I don't see anything leaking. The fluid level in the master cylinder was ok.

Anyone have any ideas?

usually when the brake pedal is "mushy" it means there is air in the system.

I understand that, thank you. I don't understand why the ABS light would come on, though. It happens in my Saturn sometimes, as well. I have yet to figure out why.

well my abs light came on in my ranger and i went on alldata in class and it told me one thing to do is add brake fluid even though i had enough i topped it off and that fixed the issue cause when i braked all the fluid sloshed forward so it made my system think hardly any was there so try that

Yeah I tried that already. Any more brake fluid and it'll seep over the edges of the master cylinder.

Any other suggestions?

Mine is on due to a bad ABS sensor. No way to test them, just yank it and replace. I don't mind the light, and I drive like I have some sense (most times) so I never worried about it. Been 3 years now and the little bugger just wont burn out.

Mine came on as well, but its a weird situation and Ive only had the ranger for about 2 months now. My ranger is a 93 with the 3.0 v6 and automatic transmission... During daylight hours, the ABS never comes on, but when it gets close to dusk, it comes on and never goes off... Tried a bunch of different scenarios, IE... Starting the truck at night vs morning vs afternoon and when driving the vehicle... The ABS ALWAYS comes on when it is "dark" out. Brakes all look good and bled the brake lines several times, but the light still comes back when it gets to dark... Maybe I have a ghost?

I have no idea why it does that, my truck is a very basic model extended cab 2wd. Any input?

Its rear abs right? If so disconnect the sensor connected to the rear axle wait about 5 mins or so and plug it back in..be sure to disconnect you battery first though

I finally broke down and replaced my sensor (20$ advanced auto). Light went out and ABS worked again. I then found out I have a bad tone ring so it would engage every time you hit the brakes.

I've only had my truck going on two weeks now. The ABS light wasn't on when I bought it, but now it is. Also, the pedal is pretty mushy too. I haven't had a chance to look at anything. Maybe this week I will.

you might try just cleaning the brakedust and other dirt off all of the sensors thats what caused my abs to act up

if the ABS light is on you can find someone with a scanner that will pull ABS codes. NOT AUTOZONE. You need a snap on scanner or the like. The ones from AUTOZONE don't read abs codes. I did this for mine and then just did some research on the internet for what the code meant. Mine ended up being the ABS module, Like $400 from Ford and no one I found makes them aftermarket so I just deal with the light for now.

ABS Light on a '95
 

New here. I've tried to search this and can't find my specific problem discussed. I'll apologize if it's already been discussed and I missed it.

Summary: '95, high mileage, 4 cyl 2W WD, RABS
ABS light comes on and stays on

Actions to date: Changed sensor on differential
Replaced control box behind radio with a "working" used unit
Replaced the ABS control valve under the driver's seat with a rebuilt
unit from Rock Auto

After each: ABS light still on.

I've bled the brakes sequentially, still get the light on.

My "understanding" which may be wrong is that the dash code plug will not show ABS faults. That you have to disconnect a yellow/black or orange/black wire....somewhere.....and ground it...and count the flashes of the ABS light to get the ABS fault code? If that's the case, I have no idea physically where that "magic" connector is. Can't find it.

Help for my ignorance would be "much" appreciated.
