Alternator..?

Hello..Yesterday I drove my Ranger to my niece's house about 20 miles away..Everything went fine..When I came back home ( in the dark) lights on, everything seemed fine until I got home.. I parked truck ,shut it down, but realized I wasn't quite in my parking space correctly..I started it back up and nothing......Battery dragging and finally just nothing at all..Since this is a fairly new battery, I'm assuming this may be alternator related..?..Thanks...

Update:

Hello..I have an update to this issue..Today I installed another good battery just for kicks and same thing..When I turn the key, it's this " thunk ", " thunk" when you turn the key..Now I'm believing this may be more of a starter issue than alternator..Evidently the starter " froze up " after the shutdown last night..It's as if it's in a bind trying to start.....

Get under truck with a hammer or blunt object and whack the starter REALLY hard. Also pull your cables and sand them down, sand the posts on your battery and sand all the chassis grounds as well. Make the bolts and mating surfaces shiny and retighten the bolts. Then get back with me
