Anybody ever replace a water pump?

My truck is making a really strange ticking noise, and I have a friend who works at the local ford dealership and he says it might be the water pump going bad. Has anyone ever replaced one before? If so how hard is it?

Its a pain in the ass to scrape the old gasket and stuff off because of where it is located.

I agree with the other post.

Mine took all day. I also changed idler pully, belt and anything that looked worn while I had it apart.

Good luck with the project.

Can't say I've had a ticking noise from the water pump before on a Ford. It's usually the belt tensioner or the idler pulley for me.

ya check the pulleys first, the water pump is a whore to get out......

I took it to ford yesterday and they figured it out and its my tensioner. They quoted my $170 to fix it. Wheres a good place to get a new tensioner from and about how much do they cost, so I can fix it myself.

once agian idk why people dont think of this is so simple.... NAPA, Advanced auto parts, auto zone, pep boys. its called auto part stores...

they are normally around $10-$30 for a new tensioner while your in there just snag a new belt too. should be around the same price... will take like 20min to an hour or two depending on your mechanical skills....
