im new here.cant figure out whats wrong w/ my 1998 ranger xlt 3.0 5 speed.just had a used 3.0 put in and it still was and still is running rough.not street reliable.black smokes very badly and when i push the accelerator it shoots out black carbon or debris.told it might be the cat converters honeycomb stuff coming out.loss of power between shifts.it just runs as if the truck is being held back.what if i take the cat. coverters off?any suggestions would greatly help.thanks

 

i'd say plugged cat, they sell stuff 2 clean them out but dont know if it works, i have always punched them out when they got 2 that point i have no emissions were im @

 

x2 here... sound pretty much like a plugged cat..you can just cut it off and weld it back together...
