Pulling the engine and the tranny..

Pulling the engine and the tranny..

I have to put in a new clutch, so i figured i would get my tranny refurbished while it was out....and my dad says i should pull the engine and tranny together, then seperate them...I figured i would redo my exhaust system while i had access to the block.....is there anything else i should think about doing while my engine and tranny is out??

No idea what your dad is talking about ???? There is no need to pull the engine..I did my clutch by just pulling the trans/xfer case....Pulling the engine is going to involve alot more time..Are you doing this on the ground or on a lift?

I pulled my engine with the tranny the last time I did the tranny, but that was because I needed to take care of some engine leaks and clean out the engine bay while I was there.

Pretty much changed out all the gaskets and seals on the engine. The engine has to be pulled (or at least raised) for the oil pan gasket.

If you need to make engine repairs or clean out the engine bay then do it, otherwise leave it in and just pull the tranny.

No need to pull the engine dude. If you're just having a new clutch put in, just pull the tranny. I just had that done not too long ago and it'll run you about $850.00. The only place I could get mine was at the Ford dealer. I agree with 02 Black Edge on this. If you're going to pull the engine it will take lots of time. The only reasons I consider pulling the engine, would be some major engine work, a swap, or rebuilding your engine completely from the ground up(that's considered under extreme engine work). Why do something when you don't have to?

Well, on the flip side..

Pulling the engine out of an older vehicle wil let you fully inspect it.. check engine mounts for any weak points, cure up any rust thats beginning to form, seal and repaint things, clean all the engine out, re-wrap any wiring.. perhaps install some higher quality foam matting to help dampen out sound/heat from the bay...

Lots of things can be gained from pulling the engine, as long as you have the know how and the proper tools. Oh, and if you have another vehicle you can use to cover for the downtime :-)

leave the engine in, unless your gung-ho about pulling the engine. no need to kill a mosquito with a bazooka, just use a fly swatter

well...I have access to a few other trucks while my engine is out, I just use it for back and forth to school mostly, and I am kinda OCDing on a small leak in one of my exhaust manifolds where I can't get at, so I figured, take a little extra time, get the exhaust prettied up, new gaskets, all new fluids, and replace my front brake lines, and I really want to get rid of this weird @ss alarm system the guy before me put in that is wired into the motor.....I know I don't need to pull the engine and tranny, but I have the time, the place, and the tools to do it...I just want to get a few more items out of the way, and still wondering if there is anything else that i should add to my list while the motor and tranny are out.

If you have any leaks on the motor its a great time to put in a gasket kit while its out.

if you have it out, you might as well just hit up the the auto store and by and complete gasket and seal kit, theyre only like 100 or so, especially since its a 93, im pretty sure everything on the engine is oem

if you have the time, the knowledge, the expirience, and the right tools....i say go for it. it's a good idea while it's out to do a thorough inspection of the engine bay, all the wires, exhaust manifolds, mounts...pretty much everything.

i've done it, i'm sure you can too

Even Better....

Since he has an extra vehicle to use and is going to pull it out, why not rebuild it from the ground up. It would be a great opp. to do that since you're removing the engine and tranny. Plus you can see if there's any damage or extreme wear and tear on any internals.
