Changing out Cam Position Sensor - Hall Effect

A new Cam Sensor arrived and it looks to be the correct component.

I thought this would be an easy removal/installation, but after removing the distributor wheel I found another piece of hardware that prevents me from reaching the cam sensor. I'm not sure if I should use a wheel puller device to spring the metal plate loose or if it's welded on, but it is in the way of accessing the cam sensor.

Please take a look at the pictures I've attached and give me your opinion on how to get down to the sensor. That rusty plate is a nuisance preventing me from changing out the cam sensor.

Thanks!

Ended up taking distributor completely out. Looking through Haynes Repair Manual, it appears that we should be able to use a gear puller to remove the pinion gear at the end of the distributor, then slide the rod all the way out so that we can install the new cam sensor. However, the pinion gear is being very stubborn. Any ideas on how to get it off. This cam sensor replacement is a pain in the neck.

I've attached a few more pictures hoping that someone will recognize the problem and have a solution

There should be a pin in the hole that needs to come out.

Yes, push out the roll pin: https://shop.marshfasteners.com/imag...ingPinfull.JPG

It can be reused
