Changing Spark Plugs
Another seeminly stupid question; is R&R of plugs real simple? Just throw a plug socket on, back out; gap & stick back in?

I only ask because my Expedition with a Triton 5.4 is infamous for breaking 90% of the plugs into 3 parts & you need a special extraction tool.

The 3 valve 5.4l is usually NOT a simple R&R.

They only need to be changed every 100,000 miles, so I would price out a Ford dealer or mechanic that has the broken plug removal kit.

If you want to do it yourself then for sure get the broken plug removal kit first, you can take it back if you don't need it.

Ford has a TSB

Loosening plug a bit and then spraying some lube in makes sense.

I think the engine should be luke warm, not hot but warm, you can touch it and it feels warm, not burn you fingers, lol.

If using manual socket wrench keep is centered and slowing apply pressure, once it starts to move it should stay hard to turn all the way out, that means plug is coming out in one piece.
It it gets easy to turn, it broke, remove that piece and open the broken spark plug remover kit.

Sorry, I was asking about the 3.0, using the Triton as my reference.

Also whats the gap for our 3.0's?

Bad reference, 3.0l is the same as any 'normal' V6, 5.4l is totally different design and type of spark plug.

gap: 0.044 inch

Just did 'em on '99 3.0 Pretty straight forward. Access not bad. If I remember right about a 3" extension on 3/8" drive rachetplu 5/8 Spark scocket for everyone , btu right rear remove the extension. They were a little rusted in, so used a dab of anti-seize when i inserted.
