[COLOR=DarkOrange]With rising gas prices I am looking for better gas mileage out of my 2005 3.0L.
After looking around the web I have found several performance chips but none for fuel economy? Any suggestions? Anyone want a good clean 2005 Supercab for payoff? =) Any help, suggestions, and/or offers will be greatly appreciated.

not cheap but it gives you more power and increased millage...

 

I have read where Bama chips tuner is the best bang for the buck. Must be one hell of a big bang because the bucks are big too. The price of one of those would buy you an awful lot of gas. I can't believe the price of all the tuners. I have a power commander on my Harley and love it. You can tune each cell for fuel and timing not just use some canned map. I don't get it.......

 

Installed K&N Intake...I think I feel something.

Installed Magnaflow Cat-back exhaust...okay, that's a little better.

Plugged in the Bamachips tuner...HOLY SH*T!! I'm a happy man!

 

I'm trying to justify the 100s that a tuner costs. What is so amazing about it?
$400.00 it better add some serious power or economy or better do both. I really am not trying to be a pain here I just don't see how 2mpg and 10hp justifies $400 or am I way off here.

 

If you do nothing else, do the tuner. The intake was about $250, might have done a little but mostly just sounded better. Exhaust was around $400. Again, great sound but the performance gains were negligable (better than the intake though). When I plugged in the tuner, OMG!! What a difference! The shift points are much stronger and the transmission holds the gears longer. No more sloppy shifting or the tranny not being able to figure out what gear it should be in. The power gains were incredible. I let my wife drive the truck after tuning it, she asked how much I spent on a new engine!

That being said, I have not dyno'ed stock vs. tuned...not really into numbers, only what I can feel (butt dyno). I've noticed around an 8mpg increase so far, but I'm doing a lot of stuff that directly affects mileage so I won't have solid numbers for awhile.

Ultimately, it's up to you. How do you want to spend your money? What are you looking for...performance, mileage, a little of both? IMO the Bamachips tuner is the first mod you should make regarding these points. I think you'll find most here will agree with me.

And no, you're not being a pain. I'd want to know how well my $400 was being invested too!

 

Keep your foot out of it, and inflate your tires... Best way to improve your mileage...

 

Thanks, yes I do want to know where my $400 is going. I have a manual shift but more power out of the 3.0 is always a good thing. I'm doing the underdog pulley next, that has to help with the mpg.

 

Didn't see that you were manual. Not sure what affect, if any, it will have on your transmission. But the power is a definite. I have the 3.slow too and have noticed quite a difference. Pulleys are next for me too.

Give Doug at Bamachips a call. He's very helpful and can answer all your questions. He won't try to strong arm you into buying one of his tuners either. I think he's got more business than he can handle quite frankly. Not easy to get ahold of, but when you do he'll take all the time you need to get all of your questions answered. You can always ask him what his return policy is if you're not happy with it.
