Painting oil pan
Hey everyone, so I got a new oil pan because the one that is on the truck now didn't seal correctly and is beat up. It arrived a couple days ago and it is covered in surface rust, so I'm going to sand it down and paint it. When I paint it, how many coats should I use and should I put a coat of clear on it? My other question is should I use engine paint? Or can I use caliber paint? Also should I paint it red or black? Thanks.

it will get pretty hot. caliper paint is also made for heat so if you already have some it would be fine to use as well.
black would be less noticeable if you did any dukes of hazzard shenanigans compared to the red which would be more noticeable chipping. if you can even see it.

Red you'll notice the chips more.
any kind of high heat paint will do, just be sure to put enough of it on, I'm not saying use the whole can, but a ton will do.

Get this stuff

(obviously the two cans in the top right)
2 coats of each should do it.
I went with Ford red on my diff cover but an oil pan isn't supposed to stick out like that. go black.

I just hand sanded it and got just about all of the rust off then just sprayed it with two good coats of engine enamel. I would have done a better job with it but I found out I was dropping it off to be worked on the day before so I just did it real quick job. By the time it rusts out I will have another truck so I'm not worried.
