Clutch starter safety switch
Clutch starter safety switch
Hello to all, and thanks in advance.
Well, I had to do a garage re-do because my elderly Mom took over the house where I worked on my truck and the Haynes book has run off on me.
I have a 1986 2WD with a 2.9 engine, manual 5 speed. Seems the clutch starter safety switch is out. I see the darn thing under there, but have no clue on the replacement process. Searched through the threads and couldn't find much... (surprised me). Can someone give me a clue?
Thanks,
Tony

Clutch switch just hangs on the pushrod, clip to remove it is on the top of the switch

You pinch the end of the clip and slide it to release the switch
In 1986 there should be 2 red/blue stripe wires at one end of the switch connector, those pass the starter activation voltage(when clutch switch is closed), you can jump those 2 wires together and key turned to START, that should activate the starter motor, MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN NEUTRAL or CLUTCH PEDAL IS DOWN, as the "safety" part is bypassed with jumper in place
If starter still doesn't activate then the problem is elsewhere, ignition switch or starter relay or wiring between these
