Im tired of searching so im just goin to ask instead...

As some of you know ill be supercharging my truck soon and im in the market for a new maf(well an upgrade from my 3.0L one anyway). Im trying my best to find me a maf out of a SOHC 4.0L motor but im having no luck so i asked shane to look at his part number on his maf so i could get an idea.. My truck is a 2000 3.0L and his is an 2001 4.0L SOHC. Now when i do a search for that part number on ebay it comes up with a few listings of mafs with all the part number i entered. Now is that the same one running in his truck(70mm)??? Becuase they come out of other Fords too such as this:

Will this part number(which is on shanes maf) directly connect to my 3.0L harness or no? I looked at the plug and it has the 6 pins but only 4 wires are coming out of the connector. I know those other 2 pins are for the iats but im not worried about that.... And of course ill be tuning my truck when its all said and done... Thanks for the help!!

There's your first mistake. Don't search for the correct part number you need on E-bay.Go to napa.com or a reputable parts dealer site and search for what you are looking for to get the correct number.Most decent sites will have a photo of the part so you can compare to what you need.
Some also have a link which will say something such as 'click here to see other vehicles this part fits'
The parts dealer's numbers may not be a Ford # but you can compare different #'s from different years/motors till you find what you're after.

I just checked the partsamerica.com site and the MAF from a 2001 4.0 is different from a 2000 3.0.

 

The stock 3.0 maf is 54mm I believe someone correct me if Im wrong. if your looking for something bigger then you will need to get a tune for the computer. check out stuffforyourranger.com they have a maf adapter that is the biggest you can go and will still work on any supercharger. Ive heard it it really screams Im jsut waiting on my tunes to get it all finished.... but its been almost a year that ive been waiting for these things. Also you can get a maf out of a 5.0 I believe. Anyway since your going to be going bigger you will need a flash or a tune because you will be moving a lot more air. 70mm is wayy to big these little 3.0s flow well from stock but since you are supercharging in the future id go with the maf from stuffforyourranger.com

 

No i think you are not understanding my question here. I know the 4.0L is not the same as the 3.0L.... Plus i have the part number from an 01 ford ranger 4.0L sohc maf. The reason im opting for a bigger maf is because im adding boost. The 3.0L is highly restrictive so im looking at a 4.0L SOHC maf(70mm) to upgrade from my 3.0L (56mm) .... I was just going to recalibrate the maf to the injectors i have as well as the setup im running.

My question is, is the part number on the 4.0L SOHC maf shane gave me from his truck the same as the part number that is say on another year vehicle with the same part number on that other vehicles maf ?? get it? My question may seem kinda confusing i think.. Sorry

And the reason i went on ebay because a lot of junkyard services and private sellers sell mafs on there and add part numbers to them... It's easier to track down what you are looking for if you have a part number sometimes!

 

No im not installing the maf before the supercharger, im doing it at the same time because i dont want that restriction and plus with the boost application ill peg out my 3.0 maf in a heartbeat... I need something bigger to handle the more airflow/fuel combo!!!

 

Ok here is another question....

All those vehicles have the same part number on their mafs but have different engineneering codes.... Are they still the same sensor with the same deminisions? Or does the engineering code even matter when it comes to the guts of the maf?

Find an Explorer with an SOHC in the boneyard and you're done.
The SCT Whipple profiles slap right on there (since they use the SOHC MAF). Done.
Too easy.
Now you need 24# injectors minimum (30# max for a good idle).
SOHC Maf plugs right in, no mods, no nothing. PCM flash is all...
Mechanical: you will need a 4.0L upper airbox or a custom intake.

 

if your going to go with forced induction your going to need to retune the ecu or use a stand alone unit. Many standalones work with MAP sensors, and these are much easier to tune compared to a MAF.

 

I just bought me a 97 explorer 5.0L mafs. This should give me enough range for my application!
