cracked manifold

i have a leak in my driver side exhaust manifold (of course b/c that side is harder to get at).....does anybody know a way to patch it so i can avoid replacing it just so i can pass DMV inspection?

I've used J B weld on a block before but I don't think it will stand the heat from exaust.Your only option would be to braze it.

well, he said he wants a temp fix so he can pass inspection, so jb weld might work for that amount of time.

go to your local auto parts store and see what they have.

a low temperature weld so it will not heat up the metal around the crap should fix it perminately...

Bring it to a welding shop...most of them can weld cast manifolds....otherwise get it SUPER CLEAN and braze it, but that probably wont hold....JB wont hold up to the heat because it expands at a different rate than the steel will..

after some investigating...i found a metal filler compound that claims to be can stand heat up to 2000 degrees...but if that doesn't work, i'll prolly just see if i can get somebody to weld it

Check the price for a used one from a junk yard. You'll have to take it off to weld it and the cost of welding and maybe breaking in the future may be higher than a used one.
