When replacing the Idle Air Control Valve on a 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0 Gas engine, does the computer have to "relearn" anything before the new valve works correctly? The old valve worked intermittently. The idle would raise up to 3000 rpm by itself and then drop back down and then raise up again. After installing the new valve the rpm would raise up to 2000 rpm after pressing the gas pedal and would remain at 2000 rpm. I was told I would have to drive the truck for approx. 10 - 16 miles so the computer could relearn it's settings! I didn't think that it was a good idea to drive the truck with the rpm's at 2000 and then try to stop the truck! Thanks for any help you can provide on this matter.

should immediately within the first few seconds of running figure itself out. try moving the wiring to the sensor and follow it back with it running (obviously be careful and aware of the fan) might have a pinched or rubbed thru wire.
