do f150's get the same gas mileage as 3.0 rangers?
 

I was a little curious and found that people get between 11-19mpg realworld gas mileage in this thread:

I have a '91, 2wd, reg cab and I usually get 13-15mpg for regular driving and 17-18mpg highway.

My truck weighs 2,000lbs less, has a 2.4 liter smaller displacement engine, and gets about the same gas mileage.

What about you guys? Does the F150 get the same gas mileage?

i still get 20-23 even with my lift :shrug:

my dads 1998 f-150 gets around 14-16 city and like 18-19 hw....

I haven't actually measured what my gas mileage is but on a monthly basis we're paying the same for gas with our 06 FX4 F150 and Ranger 3.0 XLT that we were gettting with the Ranger and the Trans Am (when it was a DD).

I think I'm getting 18mpg on average if I take it easy on the pedal.

I'm not saying that every single ranger gets the same gas mileage as every single F-150, but I'm saying if you took a poll for a high # (at least 30) of rangers, and a high # of F-150's, and averaged them together; while there may be rangers getting 21-22mpg, while some F150's are getting 9mpg, the average of all those rangers is close to the same as the average of all the F150's.

That's just what I'm seeing. Am I missing something?

Is it really worth getting a ranger to "save on gas mileage"?

The only definite increase in gas mileage I've seen is if you compare a 2.5L DOHC 4-cylinder with a 5.4L SOHC 8-cylinder. Otherwise, any other combination could be a crapshoot.

i ddint get a ranger to save on MPG i got one cause i liked the size of them...

I was surfing Fords website the other day and they claimed 29mpg freeway with a bare bones Ranger with an I4 and M5 transmission.

With that being said, I live at a high altitude (5350ft actual, 7000ft density altitude) so the 3.0 is an absolute dog up here. On average we're down 20-30% on power.

A 4 banger manual ford would just flat out suck up here.

I'm doing small power mods to hopefully at least get a little bit of that back :(

A coworker with an 02 Edge was watching his gas mileage and on city streets, maintaining a 45mph speed and taking it easy on the pedal was getting 22mpg.

He measured this over a period of a month. FWIW

I doubt we're getting 18mpg gallon with the F150 FX4 in the city. But it would be interesting to see what it does get.
