EGR valve
 

I just gave my 2000 FFV to my son but there is one problem that I haven't been able to fix. The truck has an intermittent buck that neither I nor my mechanic have been able to figure out. Research on this and other forums suggest the problem may be a bad EGR valve. There are no error codes and I don't want to swap out a bunch of parts for no reason but I did have a tuneup done with new wires. The truck has 46,000 miles on it and has had few problems otherwise. Does anyone have experience with this and how difficult is it to change this valve. Some have suggested that it should be changed every 50,000 miles anyway so there is no problem with doing this maintenance. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I didn't get a response to this question but I know other people have had a similar problem. I did change the EGR valve and I believe the problem has gone away. I don't really understand the connection between the EGR valve and the intermittent bucking but I suspect a bad valve creates a vacuum problem. The valve cost around $70.00 and was very easy to replace.

If the egr goes bad the dpfe prob goes bad along with it if the problem comes back than its the dpfe.

Could this be the driveshaft slip yoke problem that some have experienced??

Enlighten me as I don't know what a dpfe is. Symptoms felt like the torque converter engaging/disengaging while cruising at 65 mph

I juts replaced my DPFE too it was like 30 bones and did the trick....i cant remember what it stands for .....yeah it sounds like the yoke might need a good lubin

DPFE sensor = Differential Pressure Feedback EGR sensor

The slip yoke bump happens on acceleration from a dead stop, not at steady speeds.

I call that bump/jerk at light throttle "trailer-hitching". Classic symptom of a "going bad" DPFE. I've had 2 go bad that way. The first eventually lit the CEL.

You should ensure that the replacement DPFE is PLASTIC.

Give the hoses a good inspection for cracks too.

How exactly can you tell that dpfe in the pic is bad? I have a CEL for this and need to check it out
