Engine Start Then Dies
 

i have a 99 Ranger V Vin# ran great then i lost the key and was a lazy man didn't get a replacement until 2 months later now when i try starting it turns over then dies any ideas?

Odds are its the key. It is probably a valet key. We had the same situation with my son's Neon. He lost kis keys, grabbed the spare. The car started, got out of the driveway, and died. it would not start again. We checked the battery, starter, everything electrical. I finally found his keys, and it started up just fine.

does the security light in the dash flash or come on after it starts?

it comes on steady for a couple seconds when you first start it...if you have the right key it will go out...but if you dont it will flash rapidly and the truck wont start
