Fuel pump running
 

1987 ranger xlt 2.9 liter fuel pump comes on but doesn’t stop. I’ve replaced the timing chain and distributor. And now I find the fuel pump keeps running. Any advice where to start first. I’m about to shove this down the street and mark it as a homeless shelter

I assume you mean with Key On it comes on and doesn't stop, but does go off with Key OFF
If its on with battery connected then Fuel Pump Relay is most likely bad

Could be a bad capacitor in the computer, easy fix, under $2

Pull out computer, its in the cab behind passenger side kick panel
Open it up
Should see 2 or 3 "barrel" type capacitors, blue or black, they corrode and leak, take pictures to see orientation and uF and Volt values, they do have a + and - side
So new ones have to be install with correct - pin in correct hole
