Fuel Reset Light is "ON"
I filled up last night and drove around with no issues. This morning I'm driving and I notice the "Fuel Reset" light comes on. I went to press the reset button on the switch but it's already down, so it wasn't activated. I disconnected the harness started the engine, then shut it down, reconnected the harness, and started it up again to no avail with clearing the "Fuel Reset" light.
I checked the gas cap and it wasn't twisted all the way on. That's what full service stations do I guess, don't put your cap back in properly...LOL So I tightened the cap and restarted the engine.....the light is still on. Engine runs as normal and everything is fine.....I just don't like having warning lights on. Anyone run into a similar problem or know how to rectify this issue? Any input is welcome. |

It may take a few drive cycles for the PCM to do another EVAP system integrity test.
Keep driving it. |
I think this would have to do with the inertia switch. It doesn't make any sense though.

Now tha the cap is seated properly, the light should self cancel in the next trip or two. |

He has probably done a cluster swap with an earlier Ranger or Explorer. They have the Fuel Reset light for the Inertia Switch in the same cluster location where the 2001's have a Check Fuel Cap light.
Now tha the cap is seated properly, the light should self cancel in the next trip or two. I've been out of town for the past week, but while driving the truck the next day, the light went out. I forgot that on my original cluster it has a fuel cap light. I'm sure that would have explained things right there...LOL I thought I had a major fuel issue. Anyway, all is good. Thanks again to those who posted. |
Fuel Reset light only when engine is off/car is completely off
I have something that's draining my brand new battery in like 30min. I believe it's the fuel reset light however it only comes on when the car is off or only accessories are on. Fuel pump was done right before I bought it. Haven't messed with the inertia switch. Is that the 1st thing I should try?

Engine wouldn't run if inertia switch was "tripped", so if engine runs then inertia switch is not the problem, could be wire to inertia switch Fuel reset bulb is only on when key is on, so couldn't drain the battery, key off 30min is a VERY HIGH AMP DRAIN Assuming headlights are not on...............have to ask, lol could be alternator Unhook either battery cable Test battery voltage, 12.3 to 12.8volt is expected Reconnect cable Retest battery voltage, if its lower you DO have a big drain Start pulling fuses in engine bay fuse box, one at a time, to see if voltage comes back up You can get Rangers owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/ 1996 Ranger should be same fuse as 1996 B-series |

I also have a CEL so hopefully my little diagnostic tool can help identify what's going on. I'll update once I figure it out |
Pull fuse 11 in cab fuse box, 7.5amp, see if light goes off
Fuse 11 is Key On power only, or should be So could be a problem with your ignition switch, under steering column, not shutting off all the circuits with key off Does key rotation feel odd? Loose or tight The key rotates a gear inside column, that gear slides the Actuator Rod inside the column which slides the Ignition switch into its 4 positions, ACC, OFF, RUN, START |
