I was getting 16-18 beating around and about 23 on the highway with my 1999 3.0L Flexfuel, I think I would start looking for a problem.

Thats about the average for your truck in this time of the year. Remember they are adding more stuff into the gas for winter time so thats about the avg mpg the 3.0 will get in the winter.

I know mine was around there when I drove my 3.0 in the winter.

My 07 2.3 went from like 28 city to about 24 or so now due to it being cold and the additives they put in the gas for winter.

^^^^Remove all terrains and see a 2mpg increase. Aside from that, your sig doesn't say if they are stock size or not...

Attach a ScanGuage II, follow the directions on calibrating the MPG guage and follow it for a week or so. I'll bet you pick up 2-3 MPG when you realize what you are doing to hurt your mileage...

you can only do so much. I still say.... U bought a truck.....so deal with it. Trucks aren't known for their stellar performance in the mpg department.

Well, what burns my butt is I sold my '93 Ranger 3.0L automatic with 220,000 miles and was getting about 25mpg at 75mph. Then I buy a used 2003 3.0L extended cab 4 door with a factory towing package this summer. Surprise, it has a 4.10 positrac rear end. It gets about 18mpg at 75. Oh, but it does get about 25mpg at 65, so I have to drive 65 to get the same mpg.

I also have a '91 Aerostar extended body 4.0L with a 4.10 rear end and it gets about 22mph at 75mph.

So, 16 years later and they still can't or don't want to improve the fuel mileage. I get better fuel mileage with the 4.0L '91 Aerostar than with the 2003 3.0L. Figure that out. With computer control why can't they program for good mileage, or at least what they used to get?? Why can't they have a switch for standard performance and economical performance so you can sellect? Why don't pigs fly??

The up side is, it sure is a nice ride and I love the hell out of it. I mean, this is the nicest trk I have ever owned and more bells and whistles than I need but it is so nice I couldn't turn it down.

I have been looking at the bama tune system and if I could get the mileage up to 25mpg at 75mph with the tuner I may buy one. I have also considered getting the best one as if your paying $400 why not pop for the best at $200 more.

On the other hand I have also considered changing the read end ratio but I do like the accereration it now has.

Decisions, decisions.
