Well, better late then never. If you really want to go fast get a drag bike and go to the drags!
I put a Jet chip in my 02 Ranger 4.0 SOHC 5 Sp. 4x4 as soon as it went off warranty, that eliminated the 92 MPH limit and kept the 6200 RPM limit. The truck will do about 110 (only once), but that was still in 4th gear with with 500 RPM's to go. I am old enough to know when to get off the trottle and get back down to 70.
My best advice is to get a good chip and a good mechanic to do the tuning, keep the rpm limiter and go after the best economy you can get.
With 23 mpg, I can still go 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds and love to watch the ricers cry.
Be safe and know your limit, whether it be 55 or 85, be aware and focused on what you are doing as well as everything going on around you. IF YOU CAN'T DO ALL OF THESE THINGS AT THE SAME TIME, RUN THE SPEED LIMIT AND NO FASTER.

ya i didn't realize i had a governor because a few days after i bought it my wheel bearing went bad and i couldn't go over 70 without it feeling like my axle was about to fall out. when i replaced that and hit the highway and was gettin up to 95 and it cut out and the governor hit. I was pissed, my last car was an acura integra so i was used to hitting 135-140 daily and now i can't even clear 100. FAIL

Hit 96 two times, 2 mile straightaway just to see where the governor was, and the second on route 66 rushing a cousin to his ride back to jersey before his ride left. I didn't have a single shake or wobble until I was slowing down and back under 60, id take it off just to say I did, normally I wont break 80 for any reason

A fool and his body soon part, I say let everyone have the speed they want so we can refine the gene pool. Undertakers need job security too.

I know what you mean about going faster... No offense, If you wanted a fast vehicle, you shouldnt have bought a ranger... Be safe out there. You may know what you are doing but there are other people on the road and you will get into deep trouble if you are driving reckless and hurt or kill some one... But, If you insist in pulling more speed from your ranger, a tuner is the ONLY option to get rid of the gov...

I wish i could take the gov off my truck. its like set up for street right now. and when my gf wants to race home. and ive got her beat till 92 or so sucks. lol

my ranger handles nice up to the 90's and it handles and sounds so much better when doing it when its freezing outside lol.

But i wish to kinda convert my ranger over to a offroading looking ranger..

but i know i will freakin miss that 4th gear pull from 60-90 when you go to pass someone. oh its amazing.

you can still get one of the following

1. speeding
2. reckless driving
3. driving with the intent to kill

that last one is no joke either.

wow! wonder what the threshold is for those offenses... i think reckless driving starts at 20 over... intent to kill must be 30 or 40? and i've had my ranger (an 88 2wd) to 100 mph or so ONCE(empty stretch of interstate, dry road, summer evening) and it's a little disconcerting. everything feels so light, it's as if you are almost about to get lift off... didn't need to change lanes or hit a bump though... just smooth freeway(downhill). i cruise at 75-80 and it feels fine there but i won't exceed 90 or 95 again before i have lowered it... a lot... it is said by aerodynamic engineers that the single greatest force on a vehicle cruising at 50 mph is aerodynamic drag... all those parts hanging down from the underside create drag and oftentimes, lift... keep that in mind when you try pushing that triple digit...

Since it has already been pulled up again, you can get reckless driving going under the speed limit. Reckless driving is just that. They can also slap you with whatever they feel in certain situations (to an existent.) It really just depends on what you did.
