P0305 Trouble Code

Hey guys, I was driving my truck and all the sudden the check engine light comes on. I notice the truck was shaking a bit more then usual but it still drove relatively fine...as far as i could tell.

I got back and saw it was a P0305 code saying there was a misfire on cylinder 5. Then i got back and turned the truck off after reading the code and started it again and the light is no longer there.

First off I have changed the spark plugs and wires less then a year ago.

Here is the thing, on most mornings the truck kind of sputters...or takes a little while to get going...its like once you hit the gas after start up it wants to bog down and cut off but if it sits and circulates for a little bit then its fine and ready to go.

Ive done a little reading and to me this sounds like a fuel injector issue. Just wondering what others think. Also can this be an intermittent code that ill never see again?

Thanks in advance for the help.

David

I just got P0302 and checked the coil pack.
Pull the wire for #5 at the coil.put an ohm meter (set to read Meg ohms) between the coil and ground. It should show an open connection.
A missfire is either plug , plug wire , injector , or coil.

Do a compression test. I had the same problem a few months ago and thought it was an injector. Then I found there was no compression on cylinder 5. Turns out it was a cracked valve spring... Usually not the case but just thought I would let you know haha.

Of course I have the 4 oh but hey, no one wants to see a fellow ranger driver with a motor problem...

There was no rattle from what I remember but it was a pretty bad compression leak
because I could hear the the piston moving the air, like a sucking noise. I guess I
just get unlucky and have somewhat abnormal motor problems haha.
