Opinions-Headers: 2000 3.0 EGR Necessary?

Hi,

I traded for a set of JBA headers for my 2000 3.0 4x4. They are for the 2002 model and don't have the EGR hookup on them; however the 2000 does have an EGR port/connection on the exhaust manifold.

Looking for opinions or experiences with installing these headers & deleting the EGR and still run fine or if it's not worth the effort as running EGR-less will cause a big problem?

Your comments are appreciated.
Thanks-Phil

First headers don't increase power.
They are designed to move power band lower or higher, so you need to know what you traded for, and then decide if thats where you want the power band shifted to.
Stock exhaust is tuned for mid-range power band.

From what I read Florida no longer has emissions testing so removing the EGR system probably wouldn't be illegal but don't know for sure.
If you do remove it you will get a CEL(check engine light) on all the time.

And because the EGR system helps reduce "pinging" under load, you may have to run higher octane fuel all the time.
As odd as it sounds, exhaust gas "cools" the cylinders when engine is under load, this prevents cylinder from getting too hot and preigniting fuel during compression stroke, pinging.

There is no power increase from just removing the EGR system.

So I would have the headers modified for EGR pipe if you decide to use them, it will save you money in the long run.

Thanks for the reply. So your advice is get the EGR right or don't install as there will be issues from the service light to running problems and possibly other problems.
BTW, Florida does not have any emissions testing so that is not an issue.
Thanks

Yeah id hook up the EGR my 03 didn't have it so i didn't have to fool with it but most any halfway decent exhaust shop can weld in a fitting for it just have to check around.
