exhaust install

My girlfriend's dad is going to weld whatever muffler I decide I want to put on my truck. Besides a muffler and some tubing, do I need anything else to complete installation? I'm planning on getting a Borla ProXS 2.25/2.25 C/O muffler off ebay. I don't plan on running much piping out of the muffler though, and have read that I would be better off getting a Flowmaster 40 for the money. With either muffler, if I dump it right after, am I actually going to lose power? Sorry, I know this has been posted many times probably, but any answer would be appreciated.

I decided to buy the the Borla proXS off ebay. Got it for like $79. It has a 2.25 inlet and 2.25 outlet. Since the stock exhaust piping off our trucks is already 2.25 in diameter I can just reuse that piping and cut it to what length I want right? If so, how much shorter should I go on the tubing? I want performance and sound.

i dont think lenght has an effect on performance, maybe sound, but not performance. are you just going to leave the tailpipe where it is? if so, just swap out the muffler and make it fit. if the Borla muffler is shorter than the stock muffler you may need a little extra tubing. Junkyard!

I just got my Borla Pro XS installed today, in place of my flow 40 series.. right now it is quieter and has a better sound in the higher rpms than the flow 40. I cant wait till it gets broken in!

Oh its MUCH better than stock, really brings out the sound of my MAC intake as well. The one I got is a 3" SI/2.5 DO.. that's the only size of si/do borla's I found, so they had to put a reducer on the muffler inlet down to 2.5 I believe.

I want somewhat of a louder sound over stock. Did I screw myself by getting the 2.25/2.25. Would the 2.5 outlet have been much louder? Would dumping it be optimal for sound. I know it isn't going to be as loud as a flowmaster, but I bought in the hopes of improving both performance and sound.

2.25 will give you a bit more torque, esp. if you want to dump it, i noticed a slight power increase over my flowmaster, you should feel a nice difference going from stock. I'm starting to love mine each time I drive it, and I can hear my subwoofer now without having to really crank it!! My 40 series si/do would drone so bad that it seemed like it cancelled out a lot of the bass soundwaves.. Im glad I tried out the borla now.

Where would I find the piping for the muffler? I live right by a PepBoys and an AutoZone. Would either of those have it?

I think they would have exhaust tubing, or you could hit up exhaust shops for some.

for long lengths it all depnds on your autozone, most, like mine , only have bends or the ones that go from say a 3" pipe to a 2.5" pipe...

Make sure the T shaped hanger is in the exact right place. It is welded to the rear of the stock muffler, but they make "clamp on" hangers also. If it isn't, you will have a hell of a time with it...
