How to replace water pump

What do I need to remove to replace water pump on 92 3.0 liter ranger? One bolt left and it behind the belt tensioner. How do I move that out of the way?:headache:

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal and move out of way.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove cooling fan.
4. Loosen four water pump pulley bolts.
5. Loosen accessory drive belt tension and remove drive belts.
6. Remove water pump pulley.
7. Remove alternator adjusting arm and brace from throttle body.
8. Remove heater hose from pump.
9. Rotate belt adjuster out of way.
10. Remove 11 water pump-to-engine attaching bolts. Note bolt location.
11. Remove pump assembly. Discard old gasket.

thats from Alldata, i've never done it on a ranger personally. maybe someone else has some better/other advice. hope this helps

Thanks for the quick reply. The problem is the belt adjuster bracket is directly over the last bolt preventing removal of the last bolt. Even after you swing the adjuster out the way, you've got the bracket to contend with. The cooling fan bolted to back of the fan clutch, unbolting it before you remove fan clutch make the fan a pain to contend with. It appears that the secret is to remove the backet holding the power steeriing pump and AC compressor to gain access to the bolt.:dead:

I sincerely appreciate this thread as I am sitting in a parking lot waiting on a AAA tow truck to come haul my 3.0 home to get a new water pump! Heheh

I replaced the water pump in my Vulcan. It would be easier to take the fan clutch off the water pump if you left the belts on. Remember that the fan clutch is reverse threaded.

Water pump removal

How do you remove the power steering bracket to gain access to the one bolt in the water pump that is behind the pulley? I have a 1998 3.0 Ranger
