sick ranger

Hi. New here. I have an 06 3 liter 2wd ranger that has a constant check engine light. after it warms up and I set idle too long, the light flashes, truck starts to idle rough, and has poor power taking off. after I start moving this will clear up in bout a minuite. If I set long enough, the light continues to flash but will take off allmost normal. I have changed plugs, wires, coil, crank pos.sensor.fuel &air filt.
I read somewhere that a faulty egr valve will cause this. where is the egr valve located? pep boys ran a scan and all they could tell me was there is a missfire on cyl. 3 or 4. Help!

A scan should be more specific as to which cylinder is the problem, I purchased my own, it's been extremely handy. I have a '99, same engine, and the EGR valve is located on the driver's side of the engine, just behind and slightly behind the throttle body, you should see a pipe coming from the exhaust manifold to the bottom of the valve. I had a similar problem on my Ranger, misfire on #3, and it turned out to be a bad valve. You might check the compression on all you cylinders, and see what you have. I've not heard about the EGR causing this, I have over 200k miles, and I've not had any troubles with it. I hope this helps at all.
