Lucas OIL Stabilizer

does it really make a difference or will it kill your motor in the long run or a waste of money

I tried a few of the additives, like STP, in the 50's, 60's.
Didn't see any real advantage to them, over regular oil, filter changes, so I stopped.
You can read this and do some other research if you like. Then make up your own mind.

Isn't there a video out there of them using it in an engine and it just started to foam and didn't protect as well as just oil?

Sean

*edit* Here it is, take it for what you will, but I'll only use oil in my oil.

I've been using lucas oil stabilizer in my trucks for 2 years or more it seamed to slow oil consumption in my old 350 chevy and quiets the 2.5 in the ranger.

also looking at the pics at bobistheoliguy.com it appears that he is addin non-synthetic lucas to synthetic gear oil and engine oil.

The non-synthetic Lucas Oil Stabilizer's own label says it mixes just fine with any synthetic oil/hydraulic fluid.

You got me i haven't read the label lately but they make a synthetic oil stabilizer just figured you weren't suppose to mix the regular stuff with a full synthetic oil

Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer : Lucas Oil - Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer

Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer : Lucas Oil - Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer

I dont think I'd add it to gear oil or atf reguardless of what the label says, I will however continue to run it in my motors.

I used to run Lucas in all my engines, I kept reading articles, like on Bob's, and oil changes were getting expensive. We had a Lucas display at the shop, the one with the hand cranks, it developed a leak one day, so we completely emptied it out, sealed the leak and filled it back up with off the shelf cheap oil and mixed the other side as the label said it had. Not sure what kind of "oil" was in the "Untreated" side, but the cheapest motor oil climbed all the way to the top and coated the gears, just like the "Treated" side. In hindsight, I should of captured some of the "motor oil" and sent it to Blackstone for a UOA to see if it was really motor oil and not vegetable oil.

Since then I discovered diesel oil, I run Mobil 0W40 turbo diesel in my Pontiac V8 and Shell Rotella T 10W30 in the B3000. The Pontiac needs the high levels of ZDDP, as found in diesel oil, for it's hydraulic tappet camshaft, the Mazda, not so much with the roller camshaft, but it does help lubricate things much better than any bottle of oil additives and helps to clean existing sludge in the engine.

use lucas for everything. oil stabilizer in the engine. transmission additive in my tranny, yes it a manual. and there gear oil in my diffs. have been using lucas for over 10 years and i would recommend it to anybody. saved my vw and made it run way smoother. same thing for the b4000, runs alot smoother and the tranny shifts better. and the best part is, you can get it way cheaper at walmart then most other places unless they are having a sale.

take it for what you will, but there are tons of companies that claim the same things, but i only hear people recommending lucas. my fiancees dad, who has been a mechanic for over 35 years recommends lucas...

That link was interesting. I have run Lucas in my truck for quite a while. It helped quiet down my valve train, and smooth out the motor. Once I replaced the valve train I stuck to just motor oil, but will most likely be added some lucas back in. I like how thick the stabilizer is and has a tendency to coat the metals and "stick around" longer than standard motor oil.

i used it for a couple years but i think it caused an oil leak and also made my cam sync to go bad and start to sqeak.went back to 5/20 and all is good.

I have been using Lucas fuel additive for a while now and with my truck at 190K it makes it run smoother and lubricates the valve seats and seals. My truck doesn't burn any oil, I lose it via a rear main seal leak and it's not very much at all, not even noticeable.

I would recommend it. Lucas is a great product.

I used the oil stabilizer before and it quieted down the engine a bit. I used a quart of that with Castrol Syntech oil.

I have to say that Lucas is just a daily version of engine assembly lube. 1/2 the reason why oil consumption goes does is because the viscosity of the oil gets thicker with the Lucas.

The "Synthetic" variant is just a thinned down version of the original stuff. (Talked with the local distributor/rep about it)

Either way...I only use the Lucas in the bearings in my house Furnace motor...or for assembling an engine that I'm building. Besides that....I NEVER use any additives of any kind.

I tried using the Lucas 75w90 in my Mazda's manual transmission. I have never had so many synchro problems before in my life! I've tried a mess of different gear oils and so far it's been the worst.
The BEST has been Redline MT90. Synchro's loved it.

I had been thinking of trying Lucas but after seeing the Bob site, I don't think I will. I think I will stick with plain old 5w-30 non-synthetic motor oil changed on a regular basis.

Someone said they used Lucas fuel treatment and it helps lube the valves, and seals. Not in a direct injection motor it does not. Fuel never touches them and if it does your motor is on its last leg. If you have a carb or throttle body injection motor then there would be some benifit there.

I am not a fan of oil adds. If they were so great why don't the oil companys use them in their oil? The miracles in a can are R&D'd with about 1/100th the money that goes into oil. How did they do that. Remember the commercial for "the name escapes me", but they were pouring it in junk yard cars and they would come to life and pur like kittens. Or, slick 50 engines running for hours with no oil. All lies.

The one Carrol Shelby used to advertise for got exposed as mineral oil with food coloring added to it.

As for Lucas UCL fuel system treatment, it contains some of the lowest concentrations of PEA, the main ingredient in fuel system cleaners. Gumout Regane and Redline SI fuel injector cleaner contain the highest concentrations around the 40 to 45% range.

It seems the oil additives are being found to be junk and the fuel additives have varying degrees of effectiveness.

I think there is a place for injector cleaners. They help remove minor coking caused by shutting down a hot engine, and keeping the fuel system clean.

Motor Up was the brand I was trying to think of. Snake oil in a bottle, just like all the other oil additives. Just give me a top shelf motor oil (Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, etc), a good filter and my engine will have a long happy life.

How well does "Motor Flush" work? Has anyone seen research on this product? How wise is it to release these deposits? I used it once in another truck years ago and had no apparent problems. No apparent benefits either though.

You can run 90 weight in a transmission designed to use ATF???

(if the mazda you are referring to is in your signature)
