Rack&Pinon Boot Ripped?

Hey R-F,

I noticed on my way home from work today that the boot on my rack is ripped pretty good on the driver side.

Is this something to worry about right away? Any help would be appreciated

its just a matter of time before it starts dumping power steering fluid which means youll need a new rack.

just boot it, I had the same thing. Went to autozone and got a generic power steering boot and cut it to fit over the existing one. If you try and replace the whole boot it seems like you need the specific boot. My boot seems to be holding up so far. It's a quick fix

How did you get it to stay on firmly? Zip ties?

Pics?

I'll try and take a pic and post it later, but I just basically cut the new boot in half maybe three quarters and took out the steering link and placed it over the torn one. It was real tight getting it on because of the accordion effect on the boot. I might still try and add a zip tie but I think it will stay just like that. I think the boots are more like a reservoir so it shouldn't have to hold too much pressure. Also when taking off the steering link just remove the rod that goes to the knuckle.

Hello Guys,

Raising this thread back up from the dead but would this be a good replacement for my boot?

Couldn't find the boot on RockAuto for some reason...

Go to the junkyard.. and pop one off.. takes no time at all

When we do racks at work, 99% of cars / vans / suv/s we cant get the special clamp pliers in there, so we used hose clamps... zap it down with the air wratchet and be done...

Very easy fix tho...

That boot is the correct one. Let me know how it turns out, I may want to do it the correct way if it's not too much trouble.
