Changed my own oil for the first time

My soon to be step-dad taught me to change my oil today. I went with Mobil-1 oil and a Mobil-1 filter.
All I have to say is I hate the 3.0. That filter is in the worst place ever.
But I learned a lot and can't wait to change it all on my own next time.

How old are you?

Edit: My bad,I looked at your profile. Thats cool, doing your own maintanence will save a lot of money. Had a shop tell me 600 dollars to replace my ball joints. Needless to say, I took it home and learned something new that night.

I have big forearms and that made it hard for me... it was also hard to get it lined up right to get the filter on there.

It gets easier with time to get it lined up. The first couple times I was cussing the thing, but now i could do it blindfolded after being spun in a circle for 5 mins.

ya the 3.0 kinda sucks. i just feel around until i can line it up. what sucks is that you spill oil so make sure you have your oil pan under it.

get up underneath your truck and start checking things out. youll learn a lot from that.

it does help that im mostly bones ha. i usually unscrew it, turn it and let it drain and then drop it because its a pain to try and pull it out through the top

ive done it enough, i just pull it out full not spilling anything. its soooo much easier on the mustang. only pita on that is the oil pan has two drain plugs, just far enough apart i cant open them both up and let them drain at once because my pan isnt big enough

That was always my problem pre-body lift. If you get someone to shine a flash light in there its easier to see where to put it on at.

yea..well my oil filter is right above my starter....I just bought this 93 with the 3.0 in it and the starter was was from the beginning. I had to replace the engine due to not being serviced properly...the oil in it was just sludge....but anyways they say that oil is the #1 cause of death to starters....so in my case i'm going have to take my starter out each time before i take my oil filter off or otherwise oil is going to dump right onto the starter...thats what sucks

Right on man! Before you know it you'll be tearing down motors and installing blowers But it always starts with the oil change :)

Awesome! Just be glad you can actually get under your truck. My filter is in between every wire loom and sharp object haha. Not to mention I can't even see under my car when I put the filter on.

And in case no one has said this...MOBIL 1 FILTERS ARE GARBAGE!!!

You should be fine for this time but next time throw a NAPA Gold or Motorcraft on there. Mobil 1 oil is awesome but their filters are some of the worst besides K&N.
