HELP! BAD GAS MILEAGE
I have a 2002 3.0 ext cab, 2wd with 32"x11.50" tires, k&n air intake, 4.10 gears. I'm only going about 250 miles on a tank of gas. I am wanting to take the stock muffler off and put a better one on. I'm deciding between a glasspack or a flowmaster 40 series? Which would be better? And what about spark plugs and wires. Is there any other minor modifications that would help get better mpg's?

250 miles out of a tank is pretty good actually for most Rangers, especially with 32s. I can squeeze 300 out of mine driving like a little ol' lady at 55 mph on the highway without stopping, but definitely not if I have to go into town at all. I'd be happy with it. Slow down a little and do a tuneup, those are about the only two things that will realistically help. An E-fan does too, but only if you get it for the right price otherwise IMO it doesn't offset the fuel costs enough. LR

I've heard going from 3.73 gears to 4.10 damages gas mileage because it revs higher at speed. So i assume going from 4.10 to 3.73 will increase the gas mileage. Its a bit expensive and hard to install yourself, but in the long run it will help. You will also have an increased top end most likely but you will notice a decrease in how quick you accelerate when you punch it, but seeing as youre asking about gas mileage idt you would mind

OH man i didnt realize he had the 32's. pulleys would work too but that sacrifices a/c, F that, where i live thats honestly not a luxury. And i was getting horrible gas mileage so i took and replaced the coil pack, wires, and spark plugs, and put my truck on my gas saving mode on the programmer and i went from 16 mpg to 25 mpg highway. Totally worth it. It's amazing what a tune up does sometimes

i get approximatly 13.6 miles to the gallon with my 89 2.3 5spd, with a 2inch flowmaster exaust W/no cat, K&N cold air intake, new boch ir fusion plugs with boch, new boch wires, i run fuel injector cleaner through it every oil change, and have cleaned out behind the EGR, the throttle body, and the EGR is disabled, everything works except the fuel guage, now the gas milage was already failing before i did any work to it, and continually got worse and worse, no matter what season it is, soo, any ideas?

Tuners are good, but a little expensive - I was lucky enough to pick one up used, cheap. I noticed an increase of 2-3 miles per gallon when I switched over to the tuner.
With my current setup: 4.0L, 4x4, 5 speed with 4.10 gears and 33x12.5" tires and the tuner, my truck has been getting me 18-20 miles per gallon or about 300-340 miles per tank.
That reminds me, things like having a manual or automatic transmission and four wheel drive are big factors in what kind of mileage you can squeeze out as well.

you are getting more than 250 MPT if you havent had the speedometer calibrated. If the speedometer is 10% off, you are getting 275 miles per tank, if you put in 16 gallons that is 17.1 MPG. if you have an auto, that is damn good
