Misfire

I have a 2003 ranger edge 3.0L V6. I recently had some work done on the engine. Timing chain, water pump etc. it was a kit. Since then, the mechanic said it was running rough when they took it in and needed a tune up. Well, I changed the spark plugs, wires, Coil Pack, Fuel filter, air filter and still getting Check Engine light still coming on. Code says cylinder 2 misfire when it’s idling. I’m just at a loss as to what could be the problem.

Welcome to the forum

Anytime there is a misfire the first step is to do a compression test
Cold engine
Remove all 6 spark plugs
Test each cylinder and write down results
Compare results

Compression is mechanical unlike spark and fuel, so once its eliminated you can move on to spark and fuel
If compression is a problem then you don't waste time and money on spark and fuel

Changing older spark plugs is not really a waste of money, but that's done now and no change, so do the compression test

Thanks.

Tunes out it was low compression on the cylinder 2. That is what was causing the misfire. Truck runs smooth while driving, just a little rough at idle. It’s gonna be too expensive to get fixed. So I’m just gonna drive it. Thx for the info earlier. It’s an older truck and I just can’t see putting more money into it than it’s worth.

Just keep swapping around spark plugs with #2 as the idle misfire will cause it to foul out over time
Talking every few months not days, lol

Its most likely a bad exhaust valve, burnt a bit so leaking a little now, but will get worse over time so you will eventually feel it when driving
