Mod the Vulcan?

Should I bother to start modding the Vulcan, or just wait till I can find 4.0 and then mod that... It just doesn't make sense, if I tricked up 3.0 is about the same as a stock 4.0, why bother? Especially if it isn't 4x4... Should I wait and look for a 4x4 4.0?

Modding in terms of what? Speed, power? I wouldn't for speed but I would for any other mods.

Speed and power

is ur engine close to dying or do you just want to get a new one?

if you can afford a 4.0 or V8 swap then go for the V8(if your going through all the effrort why not get the best). and yeah it is true that a extremely modded and supercharged 3.0 will loose to a LIGHTLY bolt on modded 4.0... friggin lame

Save your money. The 3.0 isn't worth the cash investment for the gains it will achieve. If your looking for a ' fast ' fix, find a used whipple, spend 2500$ on it and be proud ya might beat a stock 4.0 of the same truck.

yeah its not really worth it for speed...... i got an 06' 3.0 with headers, pullies, intake, exhaust, and an efan. it makes quite a difference, but its not fast by any means. i only did it cause the wife bought the truck and its all i got to modd right now. maybe it will be better once i lower it and put a 50 shot on it!!!!!!

5.0 swap with the tko tranny!

First: you CAN'T get the 3.0 up to 4.0 standards naturally aspirated with any mods. There's not replacement for displacement, as they say.

Second, what are your goals? I have a 3.0 and made minor power mods and they help -- but it's not a 4.0, just a slightly better 3.0.

Really, NOBODY can answer that poll question well. If you want the 3.0 to come CLOSE to the stock 4.0, it'll take nitrous and/or a blower most likely...and you'll have more potential maintenance problems and "gotcha's" than you would have with a stock 4.0.

So if your goal is to get to 4.0 performance -- forget it. Get yourself a bigger engine. We've had guys blow, gas, and mod their 3.0's and the results were always disappointing compared to a 4.0 -- even a stock 4.0.

yeah...if you can afford another truck, then get the 4.0.
