Hey everybody my lil 3.0 is having a few problems...Well the other day I went to pull out and my RPM's dropped from the usual 700-1000 mark and my truck almost stalled out..When I drive somewhere sometimes it does this right after I stop and the truck is at idle.I checked the spark plugs and have one thats bad so just gonna replace with new plugs and wires couldn't hurt to do it while I have the cash..But also the biggest problem I have is not very often but it seems like after a little drive when I go at slow speeds around 20 -35 I can hear a loud screeching sound..It kind of sounded like it was coming from under the truck but I couldn't be sure as I am def in one ear and my exhaust is rather noisy..I popped the hood and it was seeming to me that it was coming from the back of the engine closest to the windsheild...I checked around and some say it could be a cam sensor or the tension pulley...Any help would be appreciated fellow rangers

 

Good Lord, that was hard to read.

Your problem does sound like a Cam Position Synchro. Don't wait around for it to get worse; you'll have to replace the engine if the CPS fails and you lose oil pressure.

I suggest you remove the serpentine belt, then start the truck and listen for the screeching sound. Don't run it very long (no water pump with serpentine belt off).

 

Sorry I made it so long lol I always feel like the detals are to long...Would the cam problem effect my oil right now as the check engine lights on???I checked it 3 days ago and checked it once more yesterday and all was good..Also no spikes on any of my gauges or nuthing while driving or idling except for that RPM stooping a little low...But is it possible it could just be the tensioner pulley instead??

If the check engine light is on run the code and then come back and tell us what it says. That's probably where you would want to start. anytime something is wrong running the codes is always the very first step I do. Well assuming the vehicle will stop that's a whole 'nother ball game.
