So i just grabed a 03 ranger XLT (flex fuel) form my uncle for 600 bucks. truck has 138000 miles on it. clean as a whistle except for the rod hanging out of the oil pan.

My question is, can i get a 3.0 block from any ford vehicle and build it and replace in my ranger?

And the "flex fuel" Is that something that makes it a special block or is it the intake system??

 

all the flex fuel means is it can run on e85...it is the same block as the other 3.0 the only thing thats different is the fuel system...i wouldnt even bother putting a 3.0 back in...id go with a 5.0

 

How much extra work is gonna be envolved with the 5.0? have you done it? what all would i need? ecm, tranny, motor,....... ???? I would love to upgrade the power but i am trying to keep this truck on a low budget. as of rite now i am looking at about 1100 total in truck. 600 for truck and 500 to get a 3.0 in truck runing

 

good luck finding a 5.0 without a ton of miles and without a huge price tag.. a mountaineer holds your key to success. I spun a rod bearing in my 98, and replaced it with an 03.
