Small improvement...

Well, for those of you following the saga with my truck... I'm about to pull my hair out. After my ordeal with Pick N Pull today, I have put a new MAF in my truck... Well I just got back in from taking it around the block after letting it sit with the battery unplugged for an hour or so; so that the computer would reset. It idled much better, but when driving it, it's STILL weak. It's so slow it's not even funny.

So, the new, longer list of fixes includes...

New air filter
New fuel filter
New plugs
New wires
New MAF
New 02 Sensors
Seafoamed
2 doses of injector cleaner, no improvement
Fuel pump and fuel pressure check out OK
Distributer checked out OK

Symptoms include
-Very, very slow and underpowered... It's getting to the point where sometimes I literally am having trouble keeping up with traffic
-Chugging gas (14mpg)
-It's idling smoother, but when I first start out, it kind of chugs a little.

I'm getting so sick of this... I've got a set of brand new Bosch Platnium +2 spark plugs going in tomarrow, and we'll see how that goes. Honestly, after all this, if it's just the plugs, I'm going to be PISSED. I'm trying to think of what it could be... I'm 99.9% confident that I don't have any blown seals or gaskets, because all my fluids come out fine, only oil in the oil, only coolant in the coolant, ect, and it has never smoked of any kind. Last oil change it was a quart low when I refilled, but it may have just been that I'm a retard and put 4 quarts in the time before, not 5. The only thing left I can think of is the plugs and the EGR valve/tube, and if the new plugs don't help, and I have a suspition they won't, that just leaves the EGR system... Which I don't know how to test and I can't afford to fix right now.

Thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I doubt it because I just passed emissions with flying colors, and if it was a plugged cat it would have trouble idling all the time, instead of bad in the mornings and then it gets better in the day, right?

I dunno about that one .. I had to replace the cat in my old Cavalier .... one day it ran fine drove it down to my parents house 300km's and drove it around all week end .. the day I take off to come back to my place .. the car was severly underpowered barely getting up to highway speeds, if I hit the gas too hard it would just sputter chugging up small hills... etc etc ... found it was a plugged cat so I had my dads mechanic replace it and the car ran like new again .. I woudl definitly look into it if I was you .. dont rule it out just cuz you passed an e-test recently

I just went out there and unbolted the exhaust right after the cat and looked in with a flashlight and everything looked A-OK, nice and clean.

I have no proof to back this up, but I REALLY don't think it's the injectors. I've put multiple doses of injector cleaner and seafoam through the truck over the past few months, and none of them have helped, even in the least... If it was a dirty injector it would at least help a little bit, right? Plus, my truck is just too young with a little over 50,000 miles to have dirty injectors, and it's only been offroad twice.

Why are the +2 plugs so bad? I've heard nothing but good about them.

Well, you guys are a bunch of haters. I put in the Bosch +2 plugs that are supposed to be so horrible, and the truck is running MUCH smoother. It sounds different, shakes less, and has more power. I'm very impressed. For the first time in almost a year, I could feel the nose pull up a little bit as I launched. She's not back 100% but she's getting there.

they will make an improvement, but they will NOT last but about a 1/4 of the time the Motorcrafts would........and the Motorcrafts would make the truck run better right after install....

The Boschs did make the truck run better right after install... Motorcraft is a good brand but these Bosch plugs really impressed me more than the Motorcraft ones did (the set I just replaced where Motorcrafts that had been in the truck for about 3 months)

if you ruint a set of Motorcrafts in 3 months, then you have other problems.......it isn't the plugs...

Why are you so die hard against Bosch? Actually what I'm thinking happened was bad 02 sensors and a bad MAF made the engine run way rich, which ruined the plugs, because they looked almost new, but there was a layer of grey ash on the plugs. Either way, I'm happy with them.
