Mystery Engine Plug???
 
Can you please help me know what this plug is.

it's between the firewall and the engine.

Bob should be able to help you when he sees it. But to help us a bit more I see its a 96. What engine? 2wd or 4wd?

The red part looks really really clean compared to the dust/grime on everything else. Did it just come off something?

I think it's the connector for the trans subharness that goes to the VSS, oxygen sensors, etc. Need more vehicle info.

It's a 1996 Ford Ranger xlt 2wd 3.0 v6

Yes, that should connect the engine harness to the transmission subharness.
