need help! need to get to work, engine is backfireing like a mule!

hey guys, i have a 3.0 V6 in need of help, its in a 94 super cab, 136k on the reader, but its not running correctly at all. my 93 3.0 would run circles around this one. the engine backfires like crazy, the Cat needs to be welded closed, would that be it? it has a new: distributor, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and coil pack.... also, its not as fast as accelerating as my old one. its rather bad... would it be a fuel issue? i put some gas treatment (ethanol, and marine stable) in there, and 7 gallons of regular gas, and its still popping like popcorn...

i just don't know what to do!

It wont accelerate annnywhere close to your old one if its backfiring. COuld be the cat, or it could be misfiring.

all the stuff above was put in correctly, so it shouldn't be misfiring... in theory

I had a 3.0 before the 302, i had to do exhaust work and didnt have power becaus of the lack of back pressure.

But it only ever backfired if it was missing. Its the simplest thing to check.

i put a flowmaster 40 series on it after i bought it

If the cat needs welded then you would lose backpressure because of the hole.
