Need your thoughts on this truck

Hey guys, I'm really considering selling my 2004 mustang gt so that I can buy a ranger and get some cash in my account. I found this 2000 ranger with the 3.0 flex fuel. I just want to know how the reliability of this engine is and will it be able to tow my 16' aluminum Lund fishing boat. I'm really not too concerned about speed as its obviously going to be a lot slower than my mustang no matter which engine I get and the money I save by selling the 'Stang is going towards a terminator cobra in a few years anyways. Basically I want a good daily driver than can tow my boat/snowmobile when necessary.
Lifted 2000 Ranger
I actually thing the owner is member on here so maybe some of you may know the truck. Let me know what you think and thanks in advance for any information!

I would go for the 4.0 as I have heard that both engines get about the same mileage but the 4.0 has more power.

Well things took an interesting twist tonight. Found out the motor is blown on the fishing boat. Probably going to be getting a tuffy that weighs around 2000 with motor and trailer. What do you guys think, can the 3.0 handle it without seriously screwing something up?

It's a great looking truck! That's why I'm thinking about trading in my beautiful black 2004 mustang gt with 28,000 original miles for it haha.

I think that price is too high, i would offer no more then 3-4k and IF trading a stang away I'd be asking for some coin. It's got a BL and some 33's. Show me a ranger on here that doesnt. No offense to you guys, just that its a common couple mods to do.

I dunno what the boat your looking at towing weighs but I vote 4.0L, it's nice to have the extra power when needed. I towed an ATV on a 3 hour trip and got 17.5mpg. Not an amazing feat but when I needed to catch up to the other member in my caravan, I did so quickly.

Yeah I'm kinda starting to think the price is a little high. I'm not trading this guy for my Stang, going to be selling that(have buyer lined up.) I really do want a 5 speed as I've been driving a stick everyday for the last 3 years and now I can't stand to drive an auto lol.

I'll start looking for a 4.0 and add the body lift and tires when I feel like spending the cash. How does the 4.0 sound with some single in/dual out exhaust?

I dont have S/I D/O, I just have a S/I S/O dump. Alot of guys do run that dual out but i feel our trucks are too small and it just looks outta place.

You can find a 4.0L w/4wd for less or similar to the prices you have posted and a BL is like $150, tires are $600-$900 depending on what you want.

Thanks for the input man! I found this gem on Craigslist and although the color is awful I bet I can talk the guy down to 2500 or maybe even less. And for that price I could care a less if something breaks because I'll have a ton of left over cash to fix it.

1994 ford ranger v6 4x4 5 spd $3.500 o.b.o

That's an awesome colour. Do it and get black or dark rims.

It's grown on me a lot since I first looked at it. Now just waiting for a reply from the guy. I hate when people only list an email and only check it like once a day at max.

Yea sorry for the delayed reply, I'm trying to line up another car before I sell this one so I'll have something to drive once the truck is gone.

If you're looking to tow, I would try to find a 4.0 with 4.10 in the diff. My buddy who worked at a Ford dealership told me he used to order Rangers for people with 3.73 or 3.55 to save fuel, unless they wanted to tow, in which case the lower gears are a big help.

I wasn't trying to bash or put you down, I was just basing it on a 12 year old truck w/ an average of 130+k miles and that it has a 3.0L. That smaller motor might be your downfall. My comment about the BL and 33's still stands. My truck is also a generic truck. Crank'd w/ 31's, it is what it is. Unfortunately mods don't add to a trucks' selling feature.

Also are there any ranger parts sites? I'm not a huge fan of the chrome on either of the above trucks and would like to change out the grille(s). I could just plasti-dip them but I'm wondering if there's any other styles out there. Where could I find brush guards? Also looking for stuff like intakes, headers, tuners, other performance stuff that isn't major.
