Still trying to figure out smoking issue...

Hey guys,

So I've been talking with FDDRIVER and trying to figure out why my truck smokes on start-up for a few seconds everytime it's been sitting for a few hours or overnight. It runs fine and no sounds or funny noises yet. No lights on or anything. I've changed the IAC, MAF, cleaned everything out, new spark plugs, oil change. This engine was just put in.

Can one of you help me out? Zach? Bob? Anybody? Truck runs and idles run it just smokes blueish/white smoke out of exhaust when I first start it up for about 10 seconds.

I have been thinking valves seals as well since it only smokes after its been sitting. I'd check you your paperwork to see if you have any kind of warranty.

All our Reconditioned Engines
come with a Standard 6 month warranty,
and a core exchange is required unless
otherwise stated.
Reconditioned Engine is a used engine
with less then 65,000 miles
on it that we have taken the liberty
of replacing all gaskets and oil seals,
and on some engines even the water pump
with new parts. "Please ask if your engine
will or will not come with new water pump"
*Please note*
That all Recondition Engines
will not come with valve cover
nor oil pan.

Just because it says they changed doesn't mean they did them properly.

True, I called them last week and told them about the smoking issue and he said keep driving it and it should go away as it's normal at first. But it's still doing it occasionally here so I'll call them back up again.

valve seals on in the head...so it has nothing to do with a reconditioned bottom end(short block)...

I'd say when your last engine took a dive, nobody check a full once over/check on the heads before bolting them on the new engine. When that last engine took a dive, it took the seals out with it i'd say. Slight dribble of oil into one of your cylinders for a few hours = blueish/greyish smoke at first start up. Because its at first start up and after a few hours sitting, eliminates the piston rings

i've been told it was a short block...meaning block, crank, rods, pistons, rings, cam, timing chain. so it was a long block?

could it jus be moisture in the air?

i know in florida, especially when it gets cold at night, the change in temperature causes the moisture in the air to drop to the ground settling in the exhaust pipes. when you turn the engine on it heats up the water and causes wat appeirs to be smoke but it is evaporated water.

Piston rings would be smoke all the time. This is just on start up, so like stated before its when the truck sits for a while it has time to drip down past the seals and when you start it, it burns off that oil.

what oil are you using in it? id try a lower weight so see if it helps, or try a higher weight.

use a higher weight to stop leaking and knocking.... maybe 10w-40 in your case.... for knocking use 20w-50

I'm using 5W-20 Royal Purple Full Synthetic.

Everybody on here is mainly pointed to valve seals, and I googled it as well and it's all pointing to those valves...
