Newb question: Vulcan?

How do I know if my engine is a Vulcan or not?

popecruz 01-07-2006 09:58 PM

99 percent sure your 02 3.0 is the vulcan. I think its just the old rangers that may not have the vulcan. And theres also that alternative fuel 3.0 that can also use E85.

yea you have one, but its just a name for the 3.0

Sounds tuff though!

buzzair 01-07-2006 10:18 PM

sure beats just saying 3.0 :)

It's all cast iron: block, heads, etc. Kind of rare these days. It's a tough, long lasting, but uninspiring engine. I have one as well. I have a friend at work has over a 1/4 of a million miles on a '97 Ranger with the 3.0. He uses only Amsoil, and always has, and it runs strong -- well, as strong as a 3.0 ever runs, lol.

All 3.0l Ranger motors are "vulcan".

Ford does make another 3.0l "Duratec" motor, found in the Escape and probably other models, but no rangers.

The 4.0l has the name "cologne" I believe for the city in Germany that produces them. Could be wrong here though.
