noise when exelerating at 50+

When I exelerate at 50+ flooring it or near flooring it there is a sound like a loose pully or bearing is shot or something, I was wondering if anyone has had similiar problems and how they fixed it. I have 62,000 on it and its a 99'. Thanks

ryanrebel125 Jan 22, 2006 09:24 PM

does it sound like a ticking noise?

Mr. Special Jan 22, 2006 10:48 PM

is it like a whine sound? if so u dont have anything to worry about. Its just the pully systems on the 3.0(i believe) and its completly normal

pushdeck Jan 23, 2006 07:13 AM

It sounds like a rinking dinkings aluminumy sound, really makes me think loose pully or loose/shot bearing?

ah its just the hampsters starting to cry.

sorry just wanted to say something. it does sound like a pulley bearing going bad. try revving the motor seeing if the same noise is made.

In my wifes 1999 XLT SuperCab when she hits about 45 mph (iirc). It has the same noise, but once you get higher (beyond 65) I think it goes away.

I have that problem too. It sounds like marbles in a can. I think it's coming from my clutch. I wish i could figure it out. When it's cold it's fine. When it warms up it does it whenever I accelerate. I think it's a pilot bearing or throw out bearing I hope.

I get a loud whirring sound from my front end once I start going over 40... I think it's some busted radials in my tires though. I know it's not the motor because when I shift out of gear at 40+, it doesn't go away until I start to slow down.

I am getting the same sound you described as well. I have a 99 ranger and it's really noticeable going up hills, when the motor begins to really work. I would like to figure this out too. Thanks.

That there sounds like a good case of pinging, you might try running some Seafoam through it to see if it does any good. Another option would be to try running midgrade to see if it diminishes.

SuperGildo@RRP Oct 12, 2006 05:00 PM

WTF is exelerating?

n3elz Oct 12, 2006 05:13 PM

Well, I'm 51 and I don't make any noise when exelerating...

shadow905 Oct 12, 2006 06:01 PM

i know exactly what yall are sayin. sounds like a tickin noise almost but really loud and in the engine. i have that in my 01. kinda bothers me cuz i dont know if somethin is wrong or what.

popecruz Oct 12, 2006 06:05 PM

marbles in a can = clutch chatter, doesn't sound like that is what you are experiencing, but clutch chatter sucks, cost me 1400 bucks to fix that problem on my svt!

And yea, check to see if it happens when u rev, not just when you are

accelerating.

shadow905 Oct 12, 2006 06:06 PM

its not clutch....mines auto and it does it

n3elz Oct 12, 2006 08:01 PM

Is it a 4.0? Could be primary timing chain rattle? Or does it not do it when accelerating? I don't have a 4.0 and I can't remember how it all works.

what is seafoam?

n3elz Oct 13, 2006 12:05 AM

It's a patented concoction: suck it into your engine and your CEL light magically comes on...

Seriously, it's a liquid that helps remove carbon deposits. You put your brake vacuum booster hose in the can and run you engine. You get a lot of smoke and you have to change your oil afterwards -- but you end up with a much cleaner engine allegedly and the folks who have used it swear by it. I've not used it, but I might at some point.
