Only 90mph??

I drive a 2002 Edge with the 3.0L v-6 and A/T. Does anyone elses top out at 90mph?? How can that be fixed? Even this is my daily driver, and i know they weren't built for speed, it surprised me when it wouldn't go past 90!!

I wouldn't do over 90 in a truck in the first place only b/c of the light weight of the back end, unless you are at the track doing a 1/4 mile time.

But to answer your question, you have to get a chip or programmer to "raise" the speed limiter and rev limiter, you can't eliminate them, but you can move it up to 120, and rev limiter up to 5750 or something like that.

The computer limits the speed. It will cut you off around 90-94mph. They do this because the drivetrain and the tires are not rated to handle speeds higher than that. It is somewhat practical as well, there is no logical or legal reason to be doing in excess of 90mph on any public road. Not to mention most average people can't handle a vehicle going that fast to beging with (hell, 50 is pushing some people's limits). If you have a logical and legal reason to be moving in excess of 90mph in your pickup truck, you should make neccessary improvements & upgrades to the stock components before re-programming or replacing the chip that will allow you to modify the speed limiter.

It's a fuel cutoff at 92, or 95 according to my GPS. You probably don't want to go any faster if you have stock wheels and suspension anyway.
An after market chip or programmer would change that, but you should invest in upgrades before you do. Just check out people's accident pictures, and you'll know it's not a great idea to go too fast in one of these trucks.

Even with suspension upgrades and tires, our trucks dont ride well at 120+ .

maybe a street truck would be ok, but its not practical for a off-road to go any faster. plus a "Brick" aint to safe to drive at 100+ speeds.

Bunch of boohoo whiners... My truck is on 33s, and I tow a boat 300 miles every weekend and run 100+ for much of the trip. Go as fast as you like, buddy. Get a programmer...

No one really needs to go fast it's just that we can. Anything over 50 with your stock equipment is crap. going 45 can get you into just as bad of damage as going 55 or 60. Stock tires and brakes can only gets you so far and after that your just a rolling bullit...
I love going 110 in my moms car, it's an adrenaline rush but not in the city...

however, it really sucks when your on the interstate and can only go 90 when the flow is like 95 and you can't pass people because your truck is still trying to pull past 90 but the computer won't let it...i'm so removing that limiter only for highway and interstate passing.

Its not showing off, its getting where your going... I'm not exactly out to impress everyone on the freeway, especially in a little truck with no power... I don't think people are impressed by the crazy speed of a slow, little truck...

Also say that again when you have to stop fast while going that speed and towing a boat. With your driving habits, you ain't gonna live long.

More wise words of wisdom

Some people shouldn't be allowed to drive, let alone tow anything behind them. I would hope that anyone with a shred of common sense realizes that the actions this indivitual claims to partake in are incredibly stupid and shows nothing but imaturity and a lack of knowing what he's doing.

And here's a bit of logic :
If you need to go 100mph to get where you're going, try leaving a 1/2 hour early.

I hope I am not anywhere around you when you are towing at 100+. That is absolutely unsafe. In AZ I tow near 75 (legal there) and feel that is about as fast as you can reasonably tow if you know what you are doing and are very alert. If you ever had any kind of a problem, you would probably end up in a ball of metal or scattered over a large area.

Oh, shut the hell up!!! Every single one of you has exceeded the speed limit in your truck, including myself... If someone wants to drive that way, let them be. They know exactly what can happen when exceeding that speed limit, a 5 year old does. If they wreck it's their fault and they know it.

Wow bringing up a topic that is 1 month old just to complain. They are not complaining about speeding they are talking about going an unsafe speed in somthing that is not ment to handle it. I say **** em if they want die good for them I just hope their wreck does not block traffic. I am not on any side of this argument but each side has some good points

P.S.- Driving 160 in a mustang is fun
