Question about Escape TB

Hey, I just got a 01 3.0 Escape TB to put on my 02 3.0 Ranger. I'm pretty confident about the installation but I did have one question before I start. Is it nessecary to use a new, wider intake tube or can I make my stock tube work? If I do use my stock tube is it going to defeat some of the purpose of the swap? Any input would be much appreciated.

You know I've wondered about this as well. I think you can just back the screw out and it should stretch on it.

Very few people have them on. No one makes adapter plates for them and some people are afraid of the JB weld leaking. I just want to know how to keep my cruise control.

heres a write up of it incase anyone is interested.. found it on RPS... Ive been thinking about this one for the longest time... but Im afraid of the bottle neck after the TB, since the escape TB is bigger it is suggested that the opening on the upper intake where the TB feeds into the manifold be enlarged so that there is a smooth transition from the bigger Tb to the smaller intake opening

the only question I have is, why are we doing this?

Rapala 05-04-2009 11:38 PM

increases air flow, better throttle response, more hp... not much... but its a pretty cheap upgrade and sounds sick with you open it up on the road... just sounds like a large quantity of air is being sucked down into the engine

Thanks for the responses. I pulled the tube off last night and it doesn't look like it will stretch over the new TB but I'll figure something out. I'm sure one of the local parts shops have some kind of adapter I can make work for me.

As for the JB weld, I got the kind that comes in a small tube thats pre mixed so hopefully it will hold up and not be sucked into my manifold
I'll be sure to let everyone know how the install goes and what kind of difference I notice (if any).

Just go to your local car store...or you may even go to the plumbing Aisle at your local hardware store and look for a reducer to fit your sizes.
