Regular gas to flex fuel
Regular gas to flex fuel
Ok so basically I have a 99 3.0l v6 flex fuel right and I haven't used e85 in my truck ever since i bought it . So my question is after putting regular gas in it this whole time can I put e85 in it now ?? Without it messing up my engine???and for those wondering I bought a truck from a owner who passed away so I can't really ask what was the history about it lol.

Yes, you can just put in E85 as long as the CEL(check engine light) is not on and fuel system still has the "sensor"
1998-2003 Ranger 3.0ls came in Flex Fuel Versions or Gasoline only
The 1998-2000 Flex Fuel Rangers had Fuel Type sensor located next to the fuel filter in frame rail, these were $650-$750 to replace if they went bad(it would set a code), or you could get a "by-pass" part(emulator) for $150 and ONLY use gasoline from then on
Emulator looks like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/252056031171
If you get under the Ranger and look you will see the fuel filter and the Fuel Type Sensor with its 3 wire connector plugged in, if so you are good to go for E85
If its not plugged in then look for an Emulator that is plugged in, and do not use E85
If all looks OK then I would only add 1/2 tank of E85 to 1/2 tank of remaining gasoline, and drive that until 1/2 on gauge and add E85 only this time

E85 gets worse gas mileage than regular gas.
It may be cheaper to fill the tank, but you will be filling it more often.
It could very well cost you more money per mile to drive.
